Porsche Training Center visited by German Chamber of Commerce

The recently completed OBERMEYER project Porsche Training Center was considered the ideal destination to highlight the symbiosis of design and functionality.

Special Excursion: Construction & Building Operation is a workshop hosted by German Chamber of Commerce Shanghai Office which is geared towards building construction and facility for professional exchange. This time, the chamber chose to organize a site visit of Porsche Training Center in Waigaoqiao, Shanghai; bringing its members the insights of planning, construction and operation of selected projects.

The new training center is built for technical and marketing training. Located in Waigaoqiao in Pudong New District, this is the biggest training center of Porsche worldwide and the first of a novel standard. It is on its way to achieving the LEED Gold Green Building Certification. Completed within a planning and realization process of about 2.5 years, the Training Center comprises 14 top-notch training-workshop units and 6 theory-training classrooms. As a design landmark, it was centered on the core principle of "straight simplicity".

In the first part of the introduction, Mr. Jon Flinn, Director of the Training Academy at Porsche China, shared his insights regarding the history and idea behind the Porsche way of crafting design, the highlights of the PTC building and the overall experience, learnt from the project.

In the following professional unit, Mr. Christopher Knabe, Director of OBERMEYER China Shanghai Office, who was actively involved in the PTC project, discussed different aspects of the building's design regarding the functional strategies and the prominent design geometry of the building, the functional layout of the floor plans and the building's systems. Both lectures were well received following by heated Q&A sections. A tour on ground floor and the 1st floor was organized after the lecture.

This special excursion gives the participants an exclusive introduction to the becoming of a brand new building prototype.
